Santo Stefano Belbo Birthplace of Italian poet and novelist Cesare Pavese, Santo Stefano Belbo is small commune built on the hills of a medieval castle, a Benedictine convent and also ruins of a temple to the Planet Jupiter. The town has been fortified since the year 1300. An ancient medieval tower once stood strong however destroyed during the Spanish – Austrian war of 1600. Santo Stefano Belbo heavily relies on the production of wine, particularly the Moscato d'Asti and Asti Spumante. |
